Direct & Inverse Proportion

Direct: both increase together → \(y \propto x\).
Inverse: one increases, other decreases → \(y \propto \frac{1}{x}\).
\(y = kx\) or \(y = \dfrac{k}{x}\)
Example
Example: If \(y \propto x\), doubling x doubles y.
Example: If \(y \propto \frac{1}{x}\), doubling x halves y.
Practice
If \(y \propto x\) and \(y = 10\) when \(x = 2\), find \(y\) when \(x = 6\).
