Find Equation of a Line
To find the equation of a line, use \(y = mx + c\).
Find m using two points, then substitute to find c.
Example
Line passes through (1, 2) and (3, 6):
→ gradient \(m = \dfrac{6 - 2}{3 - 1} = 2\)
→ substitute into \(y = mx + c\): \(2 = 2 \times 1 + c\) ⇒ \(c = 0\)
→ equation is \(y = 2x\)
Practice
Find the equation of the line through (0, -2) and (2, 2).
